In March 2020, as the COVID shutdowns began, a small army of concerned moms (and one dad) worried about the families they had come to know in their community through sponsoring children to go to summer camps over the previous 7 years, many of whom worked in restaurants and service jobs. Those jobs disappeared almost overnight, and when the schools closed so did the access to free lunches that so many families rely on.
That worry turned into action, and Solidarity Sandy Springs opened its food pantry to help families who suddenly didn’t know where their next meal would come from.
It was meant to be a short-term fix. It became something much bigger.
From a Pandemic Pantry to a Community Movement
What started as an emergency response grew into an organization dedicated to supporting families who are too often overlooked.
The pantry has moved several times over the years, with community members generously offering available space along the way. Solidarity now serves 750 to 850 families every week and distributes more than 1 million pounds of food each year.
Its mission is simple: reduce the impact of food insecurity by offering fresh, nutritious food while giving everyone in the community a way to serve and build relationships.
Solidarity is volunteer-driven. Neighbors stock the shelves, sort donations, and greet shoppers by name. Everyone is treated with dignity, and volunteering gives people a chance to be part of something special in their community.
How Blazej Got Involved
Our relationship with Solidarity began when the organization became a client of Blazej Accounting. Our own Juli Paladino worked on their account and gradually became more involved with the organization.
Over time, our connection to Solidarity grew. Although the organization is no longer a client, Juli now serves on its board, and we continue to support its mission.
We believe in supporting the communities we serve, and Solidarity is exactly the kind of organization that makes a community stronger.
